Victory Garden

The COLA Victory Youth Community Garden was established on a lot once filled with debris, weeds and brush. With much love, care, and definitely hard work from our friends and community members, the COLA Victory Youth Community Garden was established with the youth and the low-income community members in mind. Victory Youth Community Garden is designed to give our youth victory over obesity and other diseases associated with this dreadful condition such as diabetes and hypertension. The COLA Victory Garden will provide our youth with the ability to properly grow, harvest, prepare and eat healthy, chemical-free vegetables. Victory Garden is also a gathering place in a peaceful atmosphere, helping our youth to connect with and respect their environment through recycling. Not only will our youth experience victory in certain areas of their lives, but the garden produces fresh vegetables for a local food pantry in order to provide healthy, nutritional food for those patronizing the food pantry. The Victory Garden helps encourage a spirit of entrepreneurship and responsibility; builds character and restores hope in those of all ages. Our desire is to add an orchard, which will strengthen our ability to better support youth and community members with fresh fruit. We are always excited when it comes to helping others. This is our Victory!

C.O.L.A. Victory Garden opened in June 2010 and was sponsored by Thomson-Reuters. It is utilized by those who are in a diversion program or local program serving at-risk youth to provide a learning environment that will aid in providing them with a marketable skill. The produce is not sold, but is given to the Grass Roots Food Pantry for distribution. The Victory Garden helps encourage a spirit of entrepreneurship and responsibility. It is located on an acre of land at 10832 Bellefontaine Rd.
